Robert Brubaker

Born in Mannheim, Pennsylvania, Robert Brubaker initially studied at the Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut. Shortly after graduation, he joined the New York City Opera, where he developed from a baritone in the chorus to one of the leading tenor soloists. Mr. Brubaker appeared there in such roles as Rodolfo ("La Bohème"), Pinkerton ("Madame Butterfly"), the Duke ("Rigoletto") and Alfred ("Die Fledermaus"); as Alfredo ("La traviata") and Cavaradossi ("Tosca") he took part in a number of tours with the New York City Opera Touring Company. Brubaker made his European début in 1994 at the Teatro dell´Opera in Rome singing the title role in Alexander Zemlinsky´s one-acter "Der Zwerg" ("The Dwarf"). In his widely varied repertoire, a number of Slavic roles are beginning to assume a dominant position. These include the leading tenor parts in Janácek´s "Jenufa", "Kat´a Kabanova", "Vec Makropoulos" ("The Makropoulos Case") and "Z mrtvého domu" ("From the House of the Dead"), the Prince in Dvorák´s "Rusalka", Golitzin in Mussorgsky´s "Khovanshchina" and Sergei in Shostakovitch´s "Lady Macbeth of Mzensk".
