At the age of seven, Nico Samitz learned the trumpet at the music school in Spittal an der Drau in Austria. Already at this early age, he had developed his passion for making music. Encouraged by his parents and supported by the programmes of various regional formations (traditional brass band, school big band, wind ensemble, etc.), his interest in and fascination for his instrument grew further.
In 2012, he began his studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Hans Gansch and Andreas Öttl, which was to strongly influence his musical career. Two years later, he became a member of the European Youth Orchestra (EUYO); shortly afterwards, he won the academy position for trumpet at the Bayerische Staatsoper. In 2017, Nico Samitz was offered a temporary position at the Bayerische Staatsoper as trumpeter for all chairs, which he held for six months before returning to Salzburg to study and prepare for auditions. A short time later, he won two auditions in quick succession: first for the Bavarian Police Orchestra and finally for the Munich Philharmonic.
As well as playing in orchestras, Nico Samitz is interested in many other areas of music: He is a member and composer of music cabaret ensemble »BlechReiz BrassQuintett«, which he co-founded. In 2016 he released a YouTube hit titled »I kenn di von mein Handy« that he wrote himself and which has gained him more than 4 million clicks, prompting Universal Music Austria to award him a contract for a single. He is also a passionate hobby jazz trumpeter and performs early music on the baroque trumpet.
