Peter Donohoe

 

The English pianist is a native of Manchester and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Derek Wyndham as well as in Paris with Olivier Messiaen and Yvonne Loriod. In 1982, he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Over the past few years Peter Donohoe has made regular appearances with the five major London orchestras, the most important regional orchestras in Great Britain as well as with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Swedish Radio Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Czech Philharmonic and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra. He is a regular guest both at the BBC Proms and the Edinburgh and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festivals. Peter Donohoe also makes regular appearances in Australia, New Zealand and the Far East. In the United States, he has collaborated with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Symphony Orchestras of Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Detroit and the Cleveland Orchestra. Peter Donohoe has recorded a number of prize-winning CD´s for EMI, among them Tchaikovsky´s Second Piano Concerto and the three piano concertos by Béla Bartók with the City of Birmingham Symphony under Simon Rattle. His first recording for Chandos featured the complete works for piano and winds by Olivier Messiaen. Mr. Donohoe is not only vice president of the Birmingham Conservatory but also holds doctorates from the University of Birmingham, the University of Central England and the University of Warwick.
