The Tölz Boys' Choir was founded in 1956 by Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden in the Upper Bavarian city of Bad Tölz and has been headquartered in Munich since 1970. Its repertoire comprises works in the widest variety of styles and epochs, dating from the renaissance all the way to the present day. Individual groups and soloists from the Tölz Boys' Choir appear in more than 200 concerts and opera performances annually, world-wide. Large-scale concert tours have taken the choir to just about every country in Europe, to Israel, Japan, China and the United States. Such distinguished conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Karl Böhm, Herbert von Karajan, Sir Georg Solti, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti and James Levine have worked with the Tölz Boys' Choir. At the world´s great opera houses, solos for boy singers have been and continue to be sung by "Tölzers". In recordings of Mozar's "Die Zauberflöte" alone, the roles of the three boys have been cast with members of the Tölz Boys' Choir in eight different record productions.
