All recordings of the Bruckner cycle were made between 2017 and 2019 in the monastery of St. Florian, the composer's final resting place. Following the release of the individual albums, the orchestra’s own MPHIL label released a CD box set of the complete cycle.

Recordings with Valery Gergiev

In September 2016, the first CD recordings under the orchestra’s own label »MPHIL« and which document the conductor’s work with the Munich Philharmonic were released. The orchestra’s own MPHIL label also released the Bruckner cycle, which was made with Valery Gergiev between 2017 and 2019 in the monastery of St. Florian.

In January of 2004, the Munich Philharmonic named Zubin Mehta the first "Honorary Conductor" in the history of the orchestra. more

Recordings with James Levine

James Levine continued the tradition of late Romantic music with numerous recordings of Brahms, Beethoven and Mahler’s works. Another of Levine’s focal points was the early 20th century repertoire, with Schoenberg, Bartók, Gershwin and Ives. more

Recordings with Rudolf Kempe

During the years with Rudolf Kempe – he conducted the orchestra from 1967 until his untimely death in 1976 – the Münchner Philharmoniker recorded all of Beethoven’s symphonies. more

Throughout his lifetime Sergiu Celibidache was convinced that music could not be conserved on tape. He nevertheless did record a few concerts – especially compositions by Anton Bruckner – with the Munich Philharmonics. To this day, these recordings are regarded as legendary: not surprising, given that Celibidache is considered to be the greatest Bruckner specialist of his time. more

Under the baton of Günter Wand, too, the Munich Philharmonics recorded works of the great Romantic composers, notably symphonies by Anton Bruckner and Johannes Brahms. more

Christian Thielemann followed the tradition of his predecessors and, working with the Munich Philharmonics, proved to be a great interpreter of Bruckner, Brahms and Beethoven’s music.
