Label »MPHIL«

Since their founding in 1893, the Munich Philharmonic has shaped the sound of many great composers, especially of the German-Austrian repertoire, and set standards in performance. Almost 50 years later, in the 1940s, the music of the orchestra is available on record for the first time. With the »MPHIL« label, founded in 2015, the Munich Philharmonic is now releasing its recordings independently and under its own direction for the first time. The label draws from a rich treasure trove of in-house live recordings from many decades of concert activity. Historical recordings – such as Bruckner's 7th Symphony conducted by Sergiu Celibidache from 1984 – are processed using an innovative and elaborate procedure to meet the demand for an immersive sound experience, while current recordings are realized at the highest technological level. The label's catalogue therefore includes previously unreleased archive recordings as well as highlights from current and past concert seasons. All releases are available digitally, and most are also available physically – as CDs and, with the recent release of the Brahms piano concertos with Yefim Bronfman and Zubin Mehta, for the first time on vinyl.
