Born in Rosenheim, he took his first music lessons at the age of eight. Alois Schlemer initially studied horn with Hans Noeth, who served for many years as principal horn player in the Bavarian State Orchestra, continuing from 1978 to 1982 with Otto Schmitz at the Munich Music Academy. After completing his studies, Alois Schlemer joined the horn section of the Bamberg Symphony at the age of 19. He has been a member of the horn section in the Munich Philharmonic since 1985.
