Born in 1954 in Hamburg, violist Gunter Pretzel has won a number of prizes from the "Jugend musiziert" competition. He studied violin and viola in Hamburg and Berlin with Sashko Gavriloff and Bruno Giuranna and received a scholarship from the Study Foundation of the German People. In 1980 he became solo violist of the Munich Chamber Orchestra, in 1984 he moved as member of the viola section to the Munich Philharmonic. Concerts with the Debussy Trio of Munich as well as radio and CD recordings as soloist and chamber musician round off his musical activities.
