Paul Dukas

Paul Dukas is almost entirely known for a single work: his brilliant symphonic scherzo "L´apprenti sorcier" ("The Sorcerer´s Apprentice") based on a ballad by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. In actual fact, Dukas, who was an unusually self-critical composer, did not compose that many other works. Instead he largely dedicated himself to his teaching activities at the Paris Conservatory, his music-historical research and his work as a publisher of early music.

Born on January 10, 1865 in Paris.

Died on May 17, 1937 in Paris.
