Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in G major
»Chichester Psalms« for boys' voices, choir and orchestra
Intermission
»Le sacre du printemps« (The Rite of Spring)
The Munich Philharmonic kicks off its first concert season with its new principal conductor, Lahav Shani, with a program in a class of its own! Martha Argerich, undoubtedly one of the greatest artists of our time, opens the concert evening with Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, a dazzling blend of jazz bar, Rococo palace, and the finest French elegance. In the Chichester Psalms, meanwhile, Leonard Bernstein makes clear reference to his Jewish roots without denying his unmistakable Broadway flair. And finally, with Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Lahav Shani unleashes the explosive power that hurled musical modernism into the concert hall 113 years ago during its scandal-ridden premiere. It is precisely the right work to open a new chapter in the history of the Munich Philharmonic alongside Lahav Shani.
