Powerful rhythms, mighty choirs and captivating melodies: Carl Orff's »Carmina Burana« emanates pure sound energy that gets under your skin. Be it loud and bombastic or indeed sorrowful and heartbreaking, Orff's »scenic cantata« about happiness and prosperity, the joys of spring, the transience of life and earthly pleasures such as drinking, gluttony, gambling and lust, creates an archaic, yet timeless sound world in which choir, orchestra and soloists take turns in outshining each other ‒ a truly unique work in music history and also one of its most popular.
This release is dedicated to the memory of Jodie Devos, the soprano on this recording, who died of breast cancer on 16 June 2024 at the young age of 35 years. The foundation established in her name, aims to support talented young artists in their training and artistic development and to bring opera as an art form to a wider audience – through workshops, tours as well as participatory and inclusive performances (www.fondsjodiedevos.com).
A digital release from the MPHIL label, recorded in June/July 2023 at the Isarphilharmonie.
