Anton Bruckner's Third Symphony was program Maestro Maazel’s first concert as chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

Anton Bruckner originally dedicated his Third Symphony to Wagner whom he admired all his life. The second version had its premiere in Vienna in 1877 where it came to a debacle. The audience left the hall in droves, and also the music critics were united in their condemnation. It took thirteen years for the Third Symphony to be revised and to again be heard in Vienna – this time the performance met with great cheers and success. Anton Bruckner‘s Third Symphony was program Maestro Maazel’s first concert as chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
