Paul Müller studied music education and cello at the State Music Academy in Detmold. Later, he graduated from the prestigious institute for cultural management at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hamburg. After various concert activities, he continued his career in the field of cultural management as Artistic Director and later as General Manager of the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt (Oder). During this time he also collaborated closely with Ernest Fleischmann, Managing Director and Executive Vice President of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1995 he took on a teaching position in cultural management at the Europa University Viadrina in Frankfurt an der Oder. Between 1997 and 2002 Paul Müller was the Manager of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg, from where he went on to be Director of the Bamberg Symphony for six years. Since 2008 he is the Executive Director of the Munich Philharmonic, working closely together with its Honorary Conductor Zubin Mehta as well as Chief Conductors Lorin Maazel, Christian Thielemann, Valery Gergiev and Chief Conductor Designate Lahav Shani. Paul Müller was a strong advocate for the construction of the Isarphilharmonie, which opened in October 2021 and has since attracted thousands of visitors as the orchestra's new home.
