Afonso Araújo

Afonso Araújo was born in Portugal in 2005. He began his musical studies in 2019, at the Banda de Música de Antas school in Professor Daniel Afonso's tuba class. Later, in September 2019, he joined the tuba class of Professor Juan Carlos Díaz and later that of Romeu Silva, belonging to the Alto-Minho Professional Artistic School, ARTEAM. Throughout his musical career, Afonso Araújo has had the opportunity to join a number of professional projects, including the Orquestra do Norte de Portugal and the APROARTE orchestra. He has also had the opportunity to take part in numerous Master Classes given by such renowned musicians as Anne Jelle Visser, Juan Carlos Díaz, Romeu Silva, Jorge Fernandes, Ricardo Carvalhoso, Florian Wielgolsik and Maxime Duhem. In June 2023, he won 1st prize at the Alto-Minho wind competition in Portugal, and 1st prize at the Idipsumusica chamber music competition with his brass quintet, Viana Brass Quintet, with who he also won 3rd prize at the PJM - Prémio Jovens Músicos in 2022. He is currently a member of the tuba class at the Haute école de musique de Genève, the brass band of the Arquebuse de Genève under the direction of Jean-Pierre Chevalier and the Harmonie de Lancy under the direction of Mattieu Il Charriere. In the summer of 2024, he will play with the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival orchestra.
