Born in 1967 in England, Julian Shevlin took his first violin lessons at the age of seven. At eleven, he made his first appearance at the "Proms" in London's Royal Albert Hall. In 1980 he débuted as soloist in the Bruch concerto in Manchester. In 1983 he was the only European prize winner at the Yehudi Menuhin Competition. From 1984 to 1989 he studied in Igor Ozim's master class at the Music Academy in Cologne and then with Samuel Askenasi at Northern Illinois University in Chicago. In 1991 Julian Shevlin became Principal Concert Master with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, switching in 1994 to the same position with the Munich Philharmonic.
