Ten years ago, two very different formations initiated a partnership with the aim of inspiring and learning from each other: In 2013, Uli Haider, associate principal hornist of the Munich Philharmonic, established our cooperation with the Musikbund von Ober und Niederbayern e.V. (MON) with the aim of mutual inspiration and knowledge exchange. Acting as teachers and mentors, members of the Philharmonic support the amateur musicians of the MON’s advanced wind academy.
A highlight of the long-standing collaboration was the acclaimed »Frack trifft Tracht« concert in the Munich Philharmonic’s 2018/19 anniversary season – a joint concert in the Philharmonic Hall in the Gasteig, at which the brass musicians played shoulder to shoulder with the Munich Philharmonic.
To mark the MON’s 70th anniversary, a new edition of the »Frack trifft Tracht« concert took place on 15 October 2023.
We heard a wide-ranging programme for wind orchestra under the baton of Albert Osterhammer (bass clarinettist of the Munich Philharmonic), with Alexandra Gruber taking the part of solo clarinet. The narrator was Andreas Estner, presenter at radio channel BR Heimat.
