Alexander Weiskopf, born and raised in Dorfen, Bavaria, received his first double bass lessons at the age of six. After his school leaving exams, he studied at the University of Music Freiburg with Prof. Božo Paradžik and completed his Bachelor’s degree there in 2017 with top grades. His teachers also include Philipp Stubenrauch and Wies de Boevé. He complemented his musical education at master classes with Prof. Günther Klaus, Prof. Heinrich Braun, Prof. Esko Laine and Edicson Ruiz.
Alexander Weiskopf is a multiple first prize winner at the »Jugend Musiziert« competition at regional, state and national level. In 2018, he won second prize and several special prizes at the international Johann Matthias Sperger Competition for Double Bass. For more than ten years, he was a fellow of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben foundation and was supported with loans from the Deutscher Musikinstrumentenfonds.
His orchestral career began with numerous youth orchestras, including the National Youth Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra. While still a student, Alexander Weiskopf was an intern in the SWR Symphony Orchestra during the 2016/2017 season. From 2017 to 2018 he was a member of the orchestra academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. His path then took him to Berlin, where he was principal double bass in the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since January 2021, he is a member of the Munich Philharmonic’s double bass section.
