Katharina Schmitz

Born in 1971 in Lichtenstein, Saxony, Katharina Schmitz received her first violin instruction at the age of five in Berlin. There she attended the "Hanns Eisler" Special School of Music starting in 1983, following which she attended the Music Academy in Cologne, studying with Michael Vogler in Berlin and Thomas Christian at the Vienna Conservatory. The violinist received her chamber music training, among others, from members of the Amadeus Quartet. Master classes with Victor Picaisen, Wolfgang Marschner, Thomas Brandis and Giora Feidmann rounded out her training. Katharina Triendl was concert mistress of the Young German Philharmonic and played in the "Jeunesses Musicales" world orchestra. In 1995 she received a scholarship from the Ferenc Fricsay Society of the German Symphony Orchestra in Berlin. A grantee at the Munich Orchestra Academy in 1996, she became a member of the Munich Philharmonic in 1997. Katharina Triendl has appeared as soloist, for example, as guest artist with the Elbland Philharmonic of Saxony and has played with the Sibelius Youth Orchestra at the Philharmonie in Berlin.
