Maria Teiwes was born in 1980 in Bremen and took her first horn lessons at the age of 14. In 2001 she began her studies in horn with Christoph Köhler at the Music Academy in Lübeck. In 2005 she transferred to the Music Academy in Cologne, where she concluded her studies with Markus Wittgens. She became a professional in 2006 when she was engaged as principal horn player by the Munich Symphony. There followed substitute assignments at the Bavarian State Opera under Kent Nagano and with the Munich Philharmonic. In August of 2009, she became 3rd horn player with the Duisburg Philharmonic at the German Opera on the Rhine. She also substituted regularly in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (Chief Conductor: Daniel Harding). Since September of 2011, she has been a member of the horn section in the Munich Philharmonic.
