Michael Martin Kofler

Michael Martin Kofler was born in the Southern Austrian city of Villach in 1966 and completed his flute studies with honors at the Vienna Music Academy as well as the Music Academy in Basel. While still a student, in 1987, he became solo flutist in the Gustav Mahler Youth Symphony Orchestra under Claudio Abbado, and was invited by Maestro Celibidache to assume the same position with the Munich Philharmonic in December of the same year.

Since his early youth, Michael Martin Kofler has received any number of awards from international competitions. Apart from cultural encouragement prizes from the Munich Concert Society and the Austrian State of Carinthia, he was also presented with the Homage Prize by the Austrian Education Minister and in 1993 he received the Culture Prize from his native city.

Since 1983 Michael Martin Kofler has presented a large number of solo concertos, recitals and chamber music performances world-wide, and has worked as soloist and chamber musician in CD, radio and television recordings. He is a welcome guest with such major orchestras as The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras of Prague, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Salzburg, Linz, Warsaw and Zagreb, the Vienna, Munich and Württemberg Chamber Orchestras, to mention but a few.

In addition, since 1986, he conducts a special concert class in his capacity as visiting professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and has been invited to serve on the juries at significant competitions as well as giving regular master classes in Europe and Japan.
