Born in China, Yusi Chen began playing the violin at the age of 6. When he was just 14, he was accepted for study with Russian violinist Evgeny Mikhailovich at the Music Gymnasium , In 2001 he continued his studies with Eberhard Feltz at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin, from which he graduated cum laude.
While still a student he was engaged in the Academy of the Konzerthaus Orchestra in Berlin. Yusi Chen completed several chamber music courses in Berlin (with Wolfgang Boettcher), in the Southern German Allgäu region (with Stéphanie Picard) as well as in Bad Bentheim in Lower Saxony (with Eberhard Feltz).
After his studies, Yusi Chen first worked as a substitute in the 1st violin section of the Munich Philharmonic, after that as associate principal of the 2nd violins in the Stuttgart Philharmonic. Since 2008 he has been s a 1st violinist with the Munich Philharmonic.
