Our collaboration with the Münchner Volkshochschule adult education centre (MVHS) began with the opening of the Gasteig in 1985. With the aim of creating a link between the courses offered by the MVHS and the Munich Philharmonic’s concert programme, various formats have been developed over the years to afford course participants a look behind the scenes of a concert venue and into the work of an orchestra and its musicians. This innovative, fruitful collaboration continues to this day and is met with great enthusiasm each season.
In cooperation with the Münchner Volkshochschule adult education centre, we hold concert introductions before many of the concerts. Providing an insight into the historical and musicological background of the performed works and their composers, they are often attended by the evening’s conductors, soloists or musicians from the Munich Philharmonic.
The initiative »Musik und Sprache« (Music and Language) is an exclusive offer for all those taking part in German classes at the Münchner Volkshochschule adult education centre (MVHS) to take a look behind the scenes of the Munich Philharmonic. As part of the language courses, lecturers from the MVHS give an introduction to classical music, while musicians from the Munich Philharmonic present their instruments and answer questions about music and working in an orchestra. Course participants then have the opportunity to attend a rehearsal or a concert to experience the musicians up close in the concert hall.
