Johanna Zaunschirm was born in Hamburg and grew up near Salzburg. Aged six, she began her musical education under Pavla Kinzl at the Musikum Oberndorf. In 2002, Bruno Steinschaden admitted her to the preparatory course at the Mozarteum University. Two years later, she switched to Harald Herzl, with whom she also began her Bachelor studies in 2008. For her subsequent Master’s degree, she went on to Christian Altenburger at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, where she graduated with a distinction.
A passionate chamber musician, Johanna Zaunschirm regularly appears both at home and abroad, at events such as the Edinburgh Festival, the Salzburg Festival, the Brucknerhaus in Linz and the Festwochen Gmunden festival. She won prizes at the Concorso Ruggiero Ricci, Gradus ad Parnassum and Stefanie Hohl competitions and was awarded scholarships by the Hübl Foundation and the Austrian Ministry of Science.
The Austrian violinist drew inspiration in masterclasses by Nora Chastain, Pavel Vernikov, Liana Issakadze, Rainer Schmidt and Kurt Sassmanshaus.
Since 2010, Johanna Zaunschirm is substitute at Camerata Salzburg. In 2010 and 2014 she participated in the Vienna Philharmonic’s Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy. In the 2016-17 season, she performed with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under a fixed-term contract. Since October 2017 she is a member of the second violins of the Munich Philharmonic.
