Born in 1983 in Shanghai, the double bassist started studying the violin at when she was only three. Seven years later, she discovered the double bass. She was taught from then on by Professor Jian Cao. At the tender age of eleven she gave her first solo concert in the Shanghai Children's Palace. There followed several solo and chamber music concerts in China.
In 2001 Shengni Guo came to Germany to study at the Music Academy of Cologne with Professor Veit-Peter Schüssler. In Germany, Shengni Guo put her talent to the test on many occasions. She won the first prize at the "Helga & Paul Hohnen Foundation" intramural academy competition, won the musical encouragement prize from the Lion's Club, the Yamaha Scholarship Award, gave her solo début in Norderstedt and ranked among the finalists in the International instrumental competition in Markneukirchen. Time and again, Shengni Guo has devoted herself to social welfare projects and played solo and chamber music concerts in conjunction with the "Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Foundation". Shengni Guo performed as a regular guest musician in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, in the NDR Radio Philharmonic and the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart. On tour and in music festivals she played with major soloists and conductors. Since 2006, Shengni Guo has been a member of the Munich Philharmonic, and thus the first "first woman on bass" in the orchestra's history.
